Michael S Coffey

September 19, 1978 — December 14, 2022

Michael S. Coffey (44), of Worcester, died peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children and several immediate and extended members of his family at UMASS hospital Wednesday, December 14, 2022 after a courageous battle with Stage 4 Glioblastoma. Though he and his family never stopped believing that God could provide him with a miraculous healing (Isaiah 40:31; Psalm 91), this rare and aggressive type of brain cancer took him from this world way too soon.

Born in Worcester, Michael began his career in the construction field at the age of 20, working as an electrician for 22 years before his disease made working impossible. Growing up in a Catholic family and having attended Catholic school as a child, Michael had a strong affinity for matters of faith, serving out his remaining days as a beloved member of Holden Chapel in Holden, MA. Michael’s most special gifts to those who knew him well were his compassion and grace towards others, his selfless generosity, and his ability to see the best in everyone. Though he loved being an electrician and worked way too much, Michael’s passions included “hotrods” and ATV’s, biblical and ancient history (especially as it pertained to battles and military strategy), woodcarving, parties and celebrations, crude humor (to the chagrin of his wife!), traveling around New England, and all kinds of weaponry.

Having met when they were still in high school, Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years Melissa (Delling) and their two children Austin and Kyra. Michael is the son of Jeremiah Joseph Coffey, Sr. (who preceded him in death) and Patricia (Dick) Ferdella. The youngest of eight siblings (his oldest sibling, Tammy Coffey, also preceding him in death when she was just an infant), he leaves behind his two older brothers, Joseph (Alina) Coffey and Jeremiah Joseph (Yolanda) Coffey, Jr, as well as three step-sisters, Debi, Lori, and Kerri, an aunt, several uncles, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services for Michael will be held privately at the discretion of his immediate family. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Worcester, Ma 01605 is honored to serve the Coffey family.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that all gifts be made to support brain cancer research. https://secure.braintumor.org/site/Donation2
