Aristomenis “Arthur” Gatsos, 90 of Worcester passed away surrounded by his loved ones Monday, April 2, 2018. Born, raised and educated in Kalavryta, Greece, He was the son of the late George and Crisoula Gatsos. Arthur joined the Grecian Navy and upon his discharge accepted a position as a Police officer in Greece. In 1956 at the age of 29 he married Irene D. Nichols; They then immigrated to the United States and began their life and family. Over the next 46 years, Arthur and Irene worked, raised their children and lived in dedication and devotion till Irene passed away in 2005. Arthur continued to live in the family home until recently. Arthur and Irene supported their family, by co-owning and operating, various businesses including, Campus Pizza in Fitchburg, Art’s Luncheonette in Worcester and Village Pizza in Sterling. Arthur then accepted a position as a chef in the School department for the City of Worcester for the next 17 years before retiring. He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia Fresolo and her husband Rocco J. Fresolo, Sr. of Paxton, Anna Marie Bartzokis and her husband Paul of Worcester; a brother Andreas Gatsos and sister, Dina Kakrimanes both in Greece; three grandchildren he adored and cherished, Rocco J. Fresolo, Jr. and his wife Nicole, Stephen N. Bartzokis and his fiancé Nicollette, and Alexis M. Fresolo; a great grandson Rocco Fresolo III: His sister in law, Olga J. Baltas; Nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother John and two sisters, Kiki and Marigo pre-deceased him. Arthur was a loving grandfather who cherished his family, loved to work, cook and care for his yard. He always lived a hardworking simple life, cherishing his Grecian heritage and its traditions. Funeral services for Arthur will be held Friday, April 6th at 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 10:00 am till 11:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
