Richard S Cassella Sr.

March 25, 1945 — March 13, 2018

Richard S. Cassella, Sr. 72 of Worcester, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.  His son Richard was instrumental in caring for him in his final weeks.  Born and raised in Worcester, Richard was the son of Samuel A. and Agnes E. (Blanding) Cassella.  He graduated from Commerce High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era.   On May 3rd 1969, Richard married the “Love of his Life” Linda Booth and they began their journey of life.  Richard worked as a machinist at the former Henry L. Hanson Company for over 20 years before accepting a position with the City of Worcester at the Worcester Regional Airport for another 20 years before retiring. Richard is survived by his love Linda; their four children, Melissa A. Mingolla and her husband Stephen, Laurie E. Cassella and her husband Steven J. Cogoli, Twin sons, Richard S. Cassella, Jr.  and Robert E. Cassella and his love Aloma M. Barsaleau all of Worcester; two sisters, Mary J. Martin of Rutland and her pre deceased husband Joseph, Julia A Pepi and her husband James of Worcester; ten dearly cherished grandchildren, Michelle, C.J., Matthew, Isabelle, Tiana, Kayla, Angelina, Madison, Amber and John;  Nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Richard was a member of St George Church. He loved family vacations, the Green Bay Packers, Gardening, shopping and baking desserts for his grandchildren. He and Linda enjoyed spending their retirement in Maine and Florida.  Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Friday, March 16th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.  His funeral will be held Saturday, March 17th from the funeral home departing in procession at 10:15 am to St George Church, 38 Brattle St.  where his celebration of life Mass will be held at 10:30 am.   Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
