Linh Duong

June 26, 1969 — March 5, 2018

Linh Duong abruptly began his journey following in the footsteps of the great Buddha on March 5, 2018 at 48 years old. Linh leaves behind his wife Anh of almost 25 years, and two children: Derrick, 23, and Danielan, 20. Shortly before his passing, Linh suffered a stroke that pushed him to venture onto his path in the teachings of Buddha. Born on June 26, 1969, in Tra Vinh, Vietnam, Linh is the second youngest of 9 children. At age 19, he braved the Pacific’s treacherous waters with one of his brothers for freedom and prosperity in America. In 1989, Linh met his now wife, Anh. Driven by passion and love, he worked endlessly to save up for a car just to ensure her a ride to and from school. Married in October 1993, they have two children. With just his high school diploma, Linh worked harder than most to provide for his family. Working overtime for the past 23 years, Linh not only provided his family with a roof over their heads, he helped put food on the table, clothes on his children’s back, arranged for each of them to have their own car, and despite both his kids being employed, continued to put gas into their tanks so his kids would never be concerned with financial means. He continued to help fund for his children’s education up until the day of his departure. When facing New England’s worst weather, he rose well before the crack of dawn to clean the snow off cars and ensured their driveway was cleared for his wife and children. Linh’s selfless deeds never came at a cost and sacrificed all his dreams for his children. Though he longed to be a monk, it meant giving up certain treasures, treasures he wasn’t ready to let go of—his wife and children. Through a discussion, he expressed a desire to be a monk but witnessed the immediate pain fallen on his children upon the mere thought of losing their father. Instead, he forewent his dream in a heartbeat to place the importance of his family first and settled on another.  He yearned for the day to hand off his daughter to her future spouse and to play with his future grandchildren and get into arguments with his wife to see which grandchild loved which grandparent more. With his exit, he is granted his wish. There are many words that can describe Linh: virtuous, humble, selfless, and devoted to say the least. And even then, these words can’t characterize the man Linh is. It wasn’t his values that set him apart from most, it were his actions. Those who will remember Linh will remember him as the man that once bought a plow to attach to his truck so he could assist his community by plowing their driveways, the first man to raise his hand to help his temple whenever needed, the man who indiscriminately loved all and was loved by all. We will always carry you in our hearts, as the man who would cross any river, climb any mountain to be the dutiful and loving husband and father you are. Your strength and commitment to your family will be missed sorely and remain with us till the end of time. The wake service will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 3:00pm. Visitors will be allowed any time between 3:00PM and 8:00PM. The funeral will take place the following Monday at 9:00AM, where the procession to the crematory will begin at 11:00AM.
