Patricia A. (Walsh) Young, 87 of Worcester, formerly a longtime resident of Boylston, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.Patricia was born in Albany, New York, a daughter of the late Richard J. and Florence (Lyons) Walsh. She graduated from Vincentian Institute Catholic High School and later attended courses at Sage College. Patricia was formerly employed in the executive chambers of the State of New York. She met and married her late husband John in 1954 and moved to Southbridge, MA where they lived briefly before settling in Boylston where she had resided for over 50 years. Three years ago, Patricia moved to Notre Dame Assisted Living in Worcester. Patricia’s main passion was her family. She and her husband raised six children together and she was an extraordinary wife and mother. Patricia’s faith meant a lot to her. She was an active member of St. Mary of the Hills Church where she would attend mass regularly. Pat and a longtime friend had a cleaning business which serviced rectories for the Diocese of Worcester and some residential clients as well. Patricia was a social butterfly who loved to be surrounded by family and friends. She was a member of Notre Dame Assisted Living knitting group, book clubs and the residence council. Patricia was also a member of Seniors on the Go. In her spare time, she enjoyed bingo twice a week and was involved in many different card clubs. If there were ever a social event, you could count of Patricia being there. In her younger years while the children were young, Patricia taught ceramic and craft classes. Patricia’s husband of 40 years, John Nelson Young passed away in July of 1999. She is survived by her six children, Richard Young and his wife Shawn of Southbridge, Michael Young and his wife Marion of Sturbridge, Mary Ruda and her husband Bob of Dudley, Maureen Bischoff and her husband Tom of North Smithfield, RI., John Young and his wife Brenda of Spencer and Meg Cotter and her husband Jon of Auburn; a sister, Barbara Sokaris of New York; thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou Kelsey. Services for Patricia will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a funeral service at 10:30 am in St. Mary of the Hills Church, 620 Cross Street, Boylston. Burial next to her husband will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Friday, February 23rd from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
