Ret. Police Officer Michael "Mickey" Montiverdi, Sr.

February 17, 1944 — February 8, 2018

Retired Worcester Police Officer, Michael “Mickey” Montiverdi Sr. 73 of Sutton, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 8, 2018.  Michael was born in Worcester, one of seven children of Joseph A. Montiverdi Sr and Virginia (Sposato) Montiverdi.  He graduated from North High School, and earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Westfield State College.   At one time he served in the U.S. Army Reserve.  In 1969, Michael was appointed to the Worcester Police Department, serving over the next 40 years in the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, training division and Administration department before retiring in 2009.  He also taught classes at the Boylston Regional Police Academy.  He was raised in Worcester, and has lived in Sutton for over 43 years.  Mickey is survived by his wife of 43 years and “Love of his Life” Ann L. (Laviolette) Montiverdi;  his five children, Jennifer A. Montiverdi and her husband Charles Pelkey of Hillsboro, NH, Michael F. Montiverdi and his wife Jenny of Holden, Ryan J. Montiverdi and his wife Antonella of Worcester, twin daughters, Tara M. Giggey and her husband Neal of Leicester, Erica L. Petrillo and her husband Joseph of Boston; a brother Worcester Diocese deacon Gerald Montiverdi ; sisters, Nancy Leary and Elaine Feodoroff all of Worcester; three grandchildren, Leo, Lucia and Grace; his best friend and pet dog, Zoe; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.   Besides his parents, three brothers, Victor, Vincent & Joseph Montiverdi, Jr. all pre deceased him.  Michael was a member of St Mark’s Church and its Bishop J. Flanagan Knights of Columbus Council.  A member of the IBPO 911 union, the Worcester Police Credit union and active volunteer of the Worcester Fire Department Ramp gang constructing wheel chair ramps for those in need.    He was a beautiful person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; spending time with family and friends, family dinners, dancing, cooking, cigars, cognac and hosting gatherings at his home in Sutton.   He truly believed that faith, family and friends were the most important and he had room in his heart for everyone he met.  He was very generous with his love, time and resources, and helped anyone he could. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Monday, February 12th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.    His celebration of life funeral will be held Tuesday, February 13th from the funeral home with a procession to St Mark’s Church, Boston Road, Sutton where his funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am.  Burial will follow in New Howard Cemetery, Sutton.    In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances may be made to Worcester Fire Fighters United Way Ramp Program, IAFF Local 1009, 625 Chandler Street, Worcester, MA 01602
