Edward F. Chartier, 85, a longtime resident of Worcester, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. Edward was born in Worcester, a son of the late John and Mary (Kelly) Chartier. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1951 serving his country proudly in the Korean War. Edward served overseas where he was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with three stars, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Edward was a custodian for the Worcester Public Library for 25 years retiring in 1994. He previously worked for New England Metallurgical Heat Treating Steel as a machinist for many years. Edward was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. He enjoyed handy work, being outside and was an avid walker. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Camilla G. (Ruggieri) Chartier; many nieces and nephews including his three nephews, Jack, James and Danny and his niece, Susan. He is predeceased by his brother, John C. Chartier. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 9:30 -10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with the funeral procession departing at 10:45 am for an 11:00 am Mass in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
