Walter D. Zbikowski Sr., 91, of Centerville, formerly of Worcester, passed away at home, Christmas morning, December 25th 2017, with his devoted wife Harriet and family at his side. Walter was born in Leominster, Mass a son of Frank and Emilia (Sinska) Zbikowski. He graduated from vocational school with a focus on machine operation. He then joined the U.S. Army during World War II, serving his country proudly. Upon discharge from the service Walter met and married the “Love of his Life” for the next 70 plus years Harriet Maciejewski. The settled on Vernon Hill’s Polish neighborhood moving to the West side as their family grew. Walter worked to provide for his family as a mold maker / machinist for the Tupperware Company in Auburn over 40 years before retiring. He is survived by his love and partner, Harriet; his three children, Walter D. “Butch” Zbikowski, Jr. and his wife Charlotte of Barre, Joanne C. Zbikowski of Yarmouth, Diane M. Cousineau and her husband Alan of Millbury; a brother John Zbikowski of Lowell; three grandchildren, David and James Corey and Amelia Zbikowski; eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family members. A son, James S. Zbikowski, granddaughter, Christine and two brothers, Frank and Joseph Zbikowski all pre deceased him. Walter was a former longtime member of Our Lady of Czestochowa, and the Polish American Veterans Post in Worcester. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying fishing with his son and grandsons. He loved to tinker around the family homes and could fix anything. Walter and Harriet enjoyed traveling; visiting Poland, Hawaii and many trips to Florida. They also cruised a lot to the Caribbean among other places. Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours Friday, December 29th from 9:00 am to 10:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St before departing in procession to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 33 Ward Street where his celebration of Christian burial mass will be held at 10:30 am Entombment in Notre Dame Mausoleum with military honors will follow.
