Efstratios “Steven” Karapatsas, 60 of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 27, 2017 surrounded by his caring and loving family after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer. Steven was born in Lesvos, Greece and lived there until 1968, when his family moved to Somerville, MA. Steven and his wife Donna owned and operated two donut shops prior to starting their own business, Dippin’ Donuts, in Worcester, MA in 1989. They continued to open 7 more stores, with the most recent in Dudley, MA, and have since expanded to have 11 locations in operation. Hard work came easy for Steven, because he loved what he did. It wasn’t surprising to find him sitting with customers, drinking coffee, and sharing stories. He was a kind-hearted and generous man. He was very proud of his Greek heritage and visited his home village in Greece as often as possible. Listening to Greek music and singing wherever he was brought him great joy. In his youth, while working at the Averof in Cambridge, MA, he loved to join the band and sing a song or two after a shift. However, his greatest love was for his wife, children, beautiful granddaughter, and soon to arrive grandson. Steven is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Donna M. (Salem) Karapatsas; his son, James Karapatsas and his wife Deme of Arlington, MA; two daughters, Stefanie Karapatsas-Hall and her husband Matthew and Eleni Karapatsas all of Worcester; his parents, Panagiotis “Peter” and Efstratia “Evelyn” (Gogosy) Karapatsas of Lesvos, Greece; two brothers, Anthony Karapatsas and his wife Aglaia of Wilmington and Paul Karapatsas and his significant other Konstandina of Lunenburg; two sisters, Eleni Saragas and her husband George of Andover and Vicky Giannakas and her husband Stavros of Wilmington; one granddaughter, Alexandra Kathleen Hall and one grandson on the way, Efstratios James Karapatsas; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Steven’s family on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 4:00-6:30 pm with his funeral service at 6:30 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.
