Stephen R. Laplante, 64, of Jefferson passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 after being stricken ill at home, joining his father in heaven Roger V. Laplante who passed away in 2006. Stephen was born and raised in Worcester, the oldest of five children of Roger V. Laplante and Nancy (D’Andrea) Laplante. He graduated from North High School attended Quinsigamond Community College and Central New England College before earning his Bachelors Degree from Nichols College. In October of 1977, Stephen married his high school sweetheart, one and only love, since the age of 15, Kathleen J. Conway. For the next 40 years, they lived a life of love and family devotion. 26 years of which in the Jefferson section of Holden. Stephen worked to provide for his family in Information Technology for various companies, most of which for the Fidelity and Wellington Corporations before retiring recently. Stephen is survived by the family he cherished, his wife Kathleen; their three daughters, Twins, Jillian and Jaime Laplante and Caitlin Laplante all of Holden; the apple of his eye, his grandson Simon Stephen; his mother, Nancy (D’Andrea) Laplante; brothers, David R. Laplante and his wife Patricia of Leominster, Scott A. Laplante and his wife Lori of Worcester; his two sisters, Linda Watson and her husband Mark of Sturbridge, Lisa Genatossio and her husband Stephen of Holden; his Aunt Gloria D’Andrea; sister in law Cheryl Conway and her daughter Kim Paquette whom he considered his 4th daughter, and her husband Jeff; their daughters Kloe and Kathryn, affectionately naming him “GuGu”. Many other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. Beside his family, Stephen loved golf. He was a member of Wachusett Country Club and on most days after retirement could be found on the course. He also enjoyed Heritage, Highfields and Kettle Brook courses. He notably was afforded the opportunity to play rounds at the cathedrals of Golf overseas; St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles. He also wanted to walk all courses whenever he could on every round and once recorded a hole in one at Wachusett. When not on the golf course, Stephen could be found tending meticulously to his yard, enjoying his bird houses and relaxing in their summer home in Wells, Maine. A homebody, Stephen cherished the times he could be with Kathleen whom he knew since the age of 15. His three daughters, grandson and family. Nothing meant more to Stephen in his life than his family. They were his life’s inspiration. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Tuesday, November 21st from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral service will be held, Wednesday, November 22, at 11:00 am in the funeral home.
