Robert W. Piltzecker, Sr, 78, of Worcester, MA, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on November 12, 2017 after a brief illness. Robert was born on June 4, 1939 in Worcester, where he lived all his life. He was a graduate of Worcester Commerce High School in 1958 and served in the United States Army until 1961, and remained in the Army Reserve until 1964. He met his wife of over 53 years, Theresa Ann (Cicio) Piltzecker, while still serving overseas in Germany. She was the love of his life, whom he cherished every day. Robert was a member of the Worcester Police Department, proudly serving the city from 1966 to 2003, before enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Anyone who knew him knows how much he cared for those around him, and would go to any length for the people he loved. Robert was also a passionate Boston sports fan, always eager to discuss the latest news about his teams. He was a gentle spirit and a vital force who will be greatly missed. He was a dedicated husband, and loving father and grandfather. Robert also served many years as a Eucharistic Minister in the church, first at Our Lady of Mount Caramel and later at Our Lady of Loreto. Along with his loving wife Theresa, he is survived by his three children, Robert Jr. and his wife Christine, Julie, and Anthony, and his five grandchildren – Kaitlyn, Noelle, Matthew, Marishka, and Karman. Robert also leaves behind his brother, Francis Cicio; a sister, Mary and her husband John Freeburn; a sister-in-law, Marion, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, George B. Piltzecker, Sr. and Julia (Barton) Piltzecker, and his brother George, Jr. The family would also like to thank the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at UMASS Medical and Fairlawn Rehabilitation Center. Memorial services will be held in his honor at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester on Thursday, November 16th from 4pm – 7pm. His funeral will take place on Friday, November 17th with a funeral Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester.
