Diane (Bisceglia) Heirtzler, 75 of Charlton, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017 at home, surrounded by her large, loving family after a tragically short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Worcester, Diane was the only daughter of Leo and Josephine (Zona) Bisceglia. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School, Class of 1960, and went on to study hairdressing at Leo’s Beauty Academy in Worcester. Loving her career and her clients, she continued to work over 40 years until this past May when her health caused her to retire. She had worked at Pat’s Place and Illusions Hair Salon most recently. Diane is survived by her husband of 35 years, Ronald L. Heirtzler, her daughter Darlyn Bezdegian and son-in-law Richard of Shrewsbury, her son Darren Wesson and his wife Michelle of Worcester, and her son David Wesson of Charlton. She is also survived older brother Frank Bisceglia and his wife Gail, and younger brother Kenneth and his wife Christine, all from Shrewsbury. Most importantly, “Mimi” leaves behind her four adored grandchildren Tyler, Griffin, and Sofia Wesson of Worcester and Dylan Wesson of Princeton. Diane was much loved and appreciated by large flock of nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, who were lucky enough to have been treated to a lifetime of her constancy, kindness and generosity. Diane will be remembered for many special personal gifts, most remarkable and best demonstrated was her unwavering commitments to those she loved. She was a wonderful wife and friend to her husband, a fiercely dedicated mother, a joy filled grand-mother, a devoted sister and as sister-in-law, a terrific aunt and friend to so many. She enjoyed thoughtful, warm, lifelong relationships with many of her cousins, and remarkably, through her innate loyalty, she had nurtured and maintained many great friendships with people she had known since early childhood and high school. As recently as a month ago, she still enjoyed a daily, full hour of “intellectual discourse” at precisely five pm with her friend Nancy, despite the miles between Massachusetts and North Carolina which had continued over many years. Diane and Ronnie loved traveling to see their many friends up and down the eastern seaboard, watching their children and grandchildren grow and thrive, all family gatherings and their decades of inseparability as a couple. She was a wonderful cook and a dear woman. Diane was young at heart and enthusiastic; having mastered texting and emoji’s with her grandchildren while still honoring the importance of homemade “Delmonico Potatoes” with roast beef dinners. She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to her team at UMASS, especially Doctors Rava, Walsh and Vaezi, and her whole team at Dana Farber Center for Head and Neck Oncology, Dr. Lorch, Jason G. and Patti M. for their professionalism and dedication to Diane’s treatment and her importance as a person. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Diane’s Family on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 4-7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her memory be made to: The Head and Neck Oncology Center, c/o Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, D2136, Attn: Dr. Jochen H. Lorch, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
