Maurice “Moe” Monopoli, 65, a lifelong Shrewsbury resident, passed away Wednesday, November 1st with his family gathered at his side. Moe was born in Worcester, son of Luke A. and Catherine R. (Betti) Monopoli. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School class of 1970; attended Worcester State College and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Assumption College. Maurice then notably earned his juris doctorate from New England School of Law at night, while still working full time during the day, and passing the bar exam on his first try. Maurice owned and operated the successful financial advising firm, Monopoli & Associates, finding much pride in being able to work with his son Daniel daily. Moe is survived by his devoted wife and “love of his life” for the past 40 years, Anne Marie (Repucci) Monopoli; the three children he loved dearly Matthew P. Monopoli and his wife Nicole of Hudson, Katherine “Katie” Monopoli and her boyfriend Joseph Guzman of Shrewsbury, Daniel L. Monopoli and his wife Tessa of Natick; the apple of his eye, his new granddaughter, Lexi Monopoli ; his beloved dogs, Ralph and Frank; many friends he considered his chosen family, The Jesch, Ryan and Skavis families and Wayne Rawan; the many friends of his children he was proud to be an "adoptive" father to; cousins and other extended family members. Maurice was a member, and active volunteer of St Anne’s Church. He enjoyed scuba diving, golf, fly fishing, photography and spending time at their home in West Yarmouth on the cape. An accomplished musician, Moe enjoyed nothing more than playing the piano. He also played guitar, and was proud to have been a member of the band, Eastern Explosion, among others in his youth. He was a happy, fun loving man who could light up any room he entered. His quick wit, one liners, easy demeanor and generosity for anyone in need were always his specialty. Above all else, he adored his family, and every moment he shared with them was a blessing they all cherished. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Sunday, November 5th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be celebrated Monday, November 6th from the funeral home with a procession to the Church of St Anne, 130 Boston Turnpike Road where his celebration of life mass will be held at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Mt View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to St Anne’s Human Services, 130 Boston Turnpike Shrewsbury.
