Hilma K. (Koskinen) Selin, 94, of Worcester, formerly of Baileyville, Maine and St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 with the family she loved gathered at her side. Over the past year she greatly missed her husband of 67 years, L. “Oscar” Selin, who pre-deceased her passing away February 24, 2016. Hilma was born in Kalvola, Finland on May 24, 1923, the daughter of August and Hilma (Gustafson) Koskinen. Hilma was a hairdresser in Finland, but became a dedicated homemaker after moving to Canada with her husband and children in 1957. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid knitter, and a wonderful cook. Her energy, sense of humor, generosity, kindness and tenacity for life will be greatly missed by both family and friends. Hilma is survived by her two devoted children, Lauri “Larry” Selin and his wife Florence of Albany, NY, and Liisa K. Selin, with whom she lived for the past 9 years. She is predeceased by four brothers, Paavo, Marti, Matti and Manne Koskinen and three sisters; Merri Kuivalahti, Heta Lehto and Ulla Laine. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 25th at 6:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street. A period of calling hours will be held from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm prior to the service.
