Michael A Troiano, 89, Worcester - Michael A Troiano, 89, of Worcester, following a battle with cancer, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, September 10, 2017, with family gathered at his bedside. Michael was born in Worcester on October 7, 1927, the son of Italian Immigrants, Vito Antonio and Liza (Martinelli) Troiano. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade becoming a machinist and later joined the Merchant Marines. Michael then accepted a position with O.S. Walker and then the David Clarke Company, where he designed components for the Apollo Astronaut’s space suits. He later worked for Wyman Gordon, US Steel and at UMASS Hospital before retiring. Michael’s lifelong passions included fishing, hunting, collecting antiques and spending time with his family. Michael is predeceased by his first wife, Jean (Evangeline) Troiano. He is survived by his second wife of 35 years Phyllis (Boliver) Troiano: two daughters, Joanne Troiano, Lisa Paldino and her husband Paul: A son, Michael A Troiano Jr and his wife Lynn, two stepchildren, Christine Paolillo and her husband Mark, Scott Werme and his wife Rose; five grandchildren Paul Paldino and his wife Rachel, Nicholas Paldino and his wife Stefanie, Christina Florence and her husband Jeffery , Michael Paldino and his girlfriend Anna Grenier, and Allala Troiano; six great grandchildren , Alexandria and Cassandra Florence, Gabriella, Paul, Luca and Isabella Paldino; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, Notably, Michael was one of over 200 descendants of the Troiano family. He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Ralph, Francesco, Frank, Anthony and Louis Troiano, and by his sisters Rose Lepare, Teresa Liseno and Grace Dinardo. Michael loved the city of Worcester and was active in the community all of his life. He served for many years as the President of the Grafton Hill Neighborhood Association and was a member of the Green Hill Park Association. He was instrumental in the formation of Broad Meadow Brook Sanctuary (Troiano Brookside Trail was named in honor of him) and Blithewood Ave Park, helped establish the Robert H Goddard Memorial and much more. For his dedicated service to the city of Worcester, he received the “keys to the city” on April 27, 1990 and again on June 22, 1994. For his many efforts in maintaining and beautifying Worcester’s parks, he was recognized on July 28, 1992 and again on April 25, 1992. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mark Leahey and Steven Troiano for the loving care, kindness and support they provided to Michael during difficult times. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Friday, September 15th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His funeral will be celebrated Saturday, September 16th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. where his funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM. . Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester, MA.
