William O. Dupuis

  William O. Dupuis, 85, of Worcester, formerly of Boylston, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at UMass Hospital.  His loving wife of fifty-two years, Marjorie M. (Granger) Dupuis, predeceased him in March 2011. William is survived by two sons, Marc W. Dupuis of Boylston, and Michael P. Dupuis and his wife Michele of Shrewsbury; two daughters, Michele Baird of Boylston, and Catherine Parker and her husband Rudy of London, England; a sister, Jacqueline Jette of Kinderhook, NY; eight grandchildren, Peter, Molly, and Emily Baird, Samantha Desrosiers, Charlotte and Jack Parker, Katlyn and William Dupuis.  William was born in North Adams, MA son of the late, Orpha J. and Jeanne (Clermont) Dupuis.  He served his nation proudly in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict. William graduated from Assumption Prep in Worcester and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Education from Assumption College.  He was a long-time educator in Worcester, teaching World History, Social Studies, and Psychology at Burncoat Senior High School, before retiring after thirty-four years.  Not one to slow down, he continued educating people, after his retirement, as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Quinsigamond Community College, from 1994 until 2001. William was an integral part of the Boylston Community, a town he called home for forty-six years, before moving to Worcester several years ago.  He was a charter member of the Boylston Historic Commission, serving as Chairperson from 1971 to 1980.  He was one of the founding members of the Boylston Historical Society and served in many leadership positions, including President.  He was also Curator of the Boylston Historical Museum for many years.  His knowledge and fondness of Boylston let him to author twenty-three books on the history of Boylston and its people.  He was an avid genealogist and history buff.  He was honored to receive the George L. Wright Historical Award, for his dedication to research and preservation of Boylston History; much like the works of G.L. Wright himself, who served as Town Clerk, Teacher, and Historian for many years in the early 1800’s and 1900’s. William was a member of Saint Mary of The Hills Church, and a third degree member of the church Knights of Columbus group.  He was a member of the Boylston American Legion Post.  A prolific writer, he authored two children’s books, the many books about the History of Boylston, and numerous others on various topics. Calling Hours for William will be held on Thursday, September 7, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  His Funeral will be held on Friday, September 8, from the funeral home, departing at 9:30 a.m. in procession to a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Saint Mary of The Hills Church, 630 Cross Street, Boylston.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston.
