Nina (Shinkaruk) Joseph, 80, of Leicester, formally of Newington, CT, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 27th 2017. Nina was born in Hartford, daughter of the late Nicholai and Ksania “Sophie” (Dimideke) Shinkaruk. She lived in Newington and worked as a Clerk Typist for the State of Connecticut Department of Toxicology for over 25 years before retiring and moving to Leicester to live with her daughter and family. Prior to working for the State, Nina worked for the Hartford Conservatory of Music. Nina was a member of All Saints Russian Orthodox Church and its sisterhood organization in Hartford. She loved animals, and cared for many strays that came her way. She was an avid shopper. She also enjoyed playing the piano, and especially being with her daughter, son in law, grandchildren and their dog Princess. They were her life’s inspiration and her greatest joy. Nina is survived by her daughter, Christine Mahoney, her husband Joseph and their children Taylor, Allyson and Derek; a brother, Nick Shinkaruk, his wife Pat and their children Melanie and Steven of Newington Connecticut. Other than her parents, Nina was predeceased by her loving husband, Miles A. Joseph. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Tuesday, August 29th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester, Mass. A funeral service will be held Thursday August 31st at 11 am at the All Saints Russian Orthodox Church, 205 Scarborough St, Hartford. Friends and relatives may gather prior to the funeral service from 9 am to 10:30 am at the D’ESOPO FUNERAL CHAPEL, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield.
