Vito J. Laganelli, 86 a long time resident of Quinsigamond Village passed away with his family gathered at his bedside Thursday, August 24th 2017 after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born and raised in Worcester, Vito was the son of Ralph and Angelina (Lavanga) Laganelli. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade, joined the U.S. Navy serving his country during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from service, Vito accepted a position as a carpenter with the Norton Company/ St Gobain where he worked 37 years before retiring in 1992. At the same time he married the “Love of his Life”, Dorothy Ferraro. They then began a 57 year marriage of dedication to each other, raising their family. Vito is survived by his wife Dorothy; his two devoted children, Anthony Laganelli, his wife Brenda and their children Derek and Jillian: Linda Fusaro, her children Michael and Brandon, and son in law Michael; his sister, Mary Antonucci and her husband Peter, all of Worcester; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Two brothers, Joseph and Ralph Laganelli pre-deceased him. Vito was a member of North American Martyrs Church, the Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury and the Greendale retired men’s club. Vito was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His happiest times were summers spent in Maine, time with family and friends during holidays, and special occasions. He will be sorely missed. Vito’s funeral will be held TODAY, Saturday August 26th 2017 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a procession to North American Martyrs church, 8 Wyoma Ave. his celebration of life Mass will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 9 to 10:15 am at the funeral home prior to departing for church. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Golden Living Center- the Hermitage, activates fund, 383 Mill St Worcester. The Laganelli family would like to thank Vito’s niece, Ginny White for her love and support, the Staff at Hermitage and the Beacon Hospice for the care, comfort, compassion and love they gave to Vito and his family during a difficult time.
