Mary Ellen "Mimi" FitzGerald

Mary Ellen “Mimi” (Brown) FitzGerald, 60, of Oxford, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at Memorial Hospital in Worcester. Mary Ellen is survived by her son, Robert C. FitzGerald and his wife Jennifer of Dudley; six sisters, Karan Cuthberson, Marsha Bombard, Sherri Peterson, Wendy Halal, Andrea Perrin, and Christine Esposito; three brothers, David E. Brown, John Solomon, II, and Derek Solomon; three grandchildren, twins Conor and Sydney, and Madyson; many nieces and nephews.  Mary Ellen was predeceased by people very close to her, a son, Stephen FitzGerald, II, passed away in 2001, her grandson, Joshua FitzGerald in May 2017, and her mother, Mary Clara (Byther) Thorpe in April 2017.  She was also predeceased by a brother and two sisters, Duane “Ricky” Brown, Elaine Solomon, and Jacqueline Bastille.  Mary Ellen was born in Milo, Maine, daughter of the late, Duane C. Brown.  She grew up in Worcester, before settling in Oxford.  She went to High School in Worcester and later attended Assumption College. Mary Ellen was a Human Resources Manager for Saint Gobain, previously Norton Co., where she had been working for thirty years.  She loved her family and knew that family and friends were a treasure.  She cherished “girl’s weekend” with her sisters, and loved to travel.  She had great happiness with family and friends on Cape Cod and cheering on her grandchildren at all their sporting events.  She gave generously of herself and was a member of the Dudley Women’s Club and an active volunteer with the American Red Cross.    Calling Hours for Mary Ellen will be held on Wednesday, August 9, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 10, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.  Interment will follow in North Cemetery, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Red Cross, 2000 Century Drive, Worcester, MA 01606.
