Amparo “Tata” (Lagares) Garcia, 64, of Worcester, passed away in the presence of her loved ones on Monday, July 31, 2017, due to a long term illness. She is survived by her husband of thirty-six years, Carlos Garcia, Worcester’s renowned boxing coach of the Worcester Boy’s and Girl’s club; her children, Carlos Figueroa of Worcester, Tanya Aguilar of Silver Spring, MD and Celia Senckowski of Brimfield, MA; her step children, Wilma Garcia of Kissimmee, FL, Carlos Alberto Garcia of Shrewsbury, and Marisol Asante of Worcester; her seven grand-children, Adrianna, Trinity, Dinah, Katarina, Caleb, Gabriel, and Nalani; her siblings, Jose Lagares of Worcester, Milagros Acosta of St Cloud, FL, Wilfredo Lagares of St Cloud, FL, Everlidis Lagares, Angel Luis Lagares of Worcester, Ivonne Cruz of Worcester, and Camilo Lagares of Saganow, TX. She was born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico and moved to Lancaster, MA as a teenager. She attended Nashoba Regional High School. She later worked as a social worker for Great Brook Valley health center. She retired from social work and began working as a Head Start teacher. She then worked as a child care provider for Rainbow Child and Development Center. After she became ill she retired and would continue her work in the community through her church, Worcester Central 7th Day Adventist Church. She was known for always helping others and her beautiful singing voice. She will be greatly missed. Calling Hours for Amparo will be held on Sunday, August 6, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 7, at 10 a.m. in Worcester Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2 Airport Drive, Worcester (Please go directly to the church). Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
