Paul J. Dersain

January 26, 1927 — June 18, 2017

Paul J. Dersain, 90, formerly of Worcester and Danielson, CT, passed away on Father’s Day, June 18, 2017, at Suncoast Hospice, surrounded by his family.  He is the son of the late Garabed DerSahaguian and Margaret (Sarkissian) DerSahaguian Geranian.  Born in Marseilles, France, he served in the French Army, during World War II, before immigrating to the United States, in February 1949.  After becoming a U.S. citizen, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War.  Dedicated to the U.S. Army, Paul spent 28 years working as a Clothing/Pattern Designer, at the U.S Army Natick Laboratories.  After retiring as a civilian employee, he continued working there for many more years as a consultant.  Prior to working for the Army, he was the tailor at House of Doherty, Denholm's and Filene's in Worcester.   Paul was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, where he was involved in the Men's Club.  He was an avid player of Petanque (Boules), both locally, as well as, participating in competitions.  His hobbies included gardening; taking cruises, watching soccer and visiting loved ones in France.  His favorite pastime was hosting holiday and Sunday dinner gatherings, for family and friends.  Nothing provided him greater contentment than being surrounded by those he loved, while enjoying a fine meal, good wine and a nice cigar.  Paul lost the love of his life, when his wife of 53 years, Rose Marie (Minassian) Dersain passed away.  He is survived by three daughters: Anne-Marie D. Smith of Worcester, Margaret L. Hagopian of West Brookfield and Julie R. Pasquale of Largo, Fl.  He leaves four grandchildren: Danielle Bourassa & her husband Jonathan of Largo, Fl, Garabed Hagopian of Medford, MA, Hagop Hagopian & his wife Chelsea of West Brookfield, MA and Heather D’Ambra & her husband Richard of South Grafton, MA.  In addition, he leaves two great grandchildren, Mason C. Bourassa and Luca J. Bourassa.  He is predeceased by his grandson, John S. Hagopian and his son-in-law, John Hagopian.  The family wishes to thank the staff at Suncoast Hospice, as well as, all who cared for him.    Calling hours will be held from 2:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, June 25, 2017, at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester, MA.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM, on Monday, June 26, 2017, at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St, Worcester, MA, 01609.  Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his cherished memory, can be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour.  He will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him.  To share your thoughts and memories of Paul, please visit his personal guestbook at www.mercadantefuneral.com
