William J. “Crash” Coonan, 70, of Worcester, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Saint Vincent Hospital. William was born in Worcester, son of the late Frederick and Charlotte (O’Connor) Coonan, and has lived in Worcester all his life. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Patricia M. (Stanick) Coonan; two daughters, Jennifer J. Coonan and her fiancé Neil Carson of Framingham, and Melissa A. Coonan-Pecorella and her husband David Pecorella of Dover, MA; two beautiful granddaughters, Josephine Chloe and Sophie Grace; his grand-dog, Nena, two sisters, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, David and Frederick Coonan, and by his two precious cats, Shelley and Byron. He attended Commerce High School for most of this high school years, but with the closing of that school, he graduated from Doherty Memorial High School. He served his nation proudly in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. William was a correctional officer for thirty-two years with the Worcester County Sherriff’s Department, retiring in 2003. William was a member of Saint John’s Church, the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union and was a former member of Brown Square Civic Club. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 19, at 10 a.m. in Saint John’s Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
