Joseph F. DeSimone, 82, of Worcester, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017, at Saint Vincent Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Rita P. (McQuaid) DeSimone; their three sons, Joseph F. DeSimone, Jr. and his wife Victoria, John P. DeSimone, and James M. DeSimone, all of Worcester; a brother, Richard DeSimone of Auburn; a sister, Brenda Stinton of Largo, FL; six grandchildren, Christina, Adam, Julia, Antonia, Mollee, and Arianna; many nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his sister, Joan Quitadamo. Born in Worcester, son of the late Joseph and Helen (Berkiel) DeSimone, he called this city home, all his life. He graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Trade. He later served his nation proudly in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the States, Joseph married his wife, Rita and together they set out to raise three wonderful sons. He joined the Worcester Fire Department, and upon his retirement he went to work for Fallon clinic, retiring as Maintenance Supervisor after twenty-one years of dedicated service. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, the Worcester Sons of Italy, Lodge 168, the Knights of Columbus, the Greendale Retired Men’s Club, and V.F.W. Post 06907. He enjoyed time with his family and exploring “The Wonder of It All”. Calling Hours will be held on Friday, June 9, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, members of the Sons of Italy, will gather at 6:30 p.m. to conduct their Funeral Ritual. His Funeral will be held on Saturday, June 10, from the funeral home, departing in procession at 9:40 a.m. for at 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Road, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers donation in his memory may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
