Rita T. (Trafecante) Leary, 87, of Worcester passed away peacefully Sunday June 4, 2017 with family gathered at her side. Rita was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Gennaro Trafecante and Helen (Parmenter) Trafecante. She grew up in Worcester, attended Worcester Public schools, worked several years as a sales rep for the John C. McGinnis Company, and as an assistant buyer and sales rep over fifteen years for the Richard Healy Company before retiring. She has lived here all her life. Rita’s husband John Leary passed away in 1988. She is survived by, a niece Carol and husband David, whose visits with Rita were always fun, with many laughs, and with her live in companion who cared for Rita for many years Sal “Frapa” Boffoli. Rita also leaves extended family members and enjoyed her many other nieces and nephews and being a Great Aunt. In addition to her husband John; three sisters Catherine (Trafecante) Jarvis, Rose (Trafecante) Monroe, Evelyn (Trafecante) Grudzinskas and three brothers Francis “Bep” Trafecante, Jeremiah “Sony” Trafecante, Robert Trafecante and beloved nephew Carlo Trafecante all pre deceased her. Rita’s funeral will be held Thursday, June 8th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a procession to St John’s Church, 40 Temple Street where her celebration of life Mass will be held at 10:30 am. Burial in St John’s Cemetery will follow. A period of calling hours will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am Thursday morning prior to leaving for church. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to St John’s Food Pantry, 44 Temple St Worcester.
