Hazel L. (Stephenson) Bergin, 91, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 at UMass-Memorial Hospital, in Worcester. Hazel leaves her beloved two daughters, Gina Gray of Auburn, and Cathy Tomlin and her husband George of Holden; two grandsons, Ronnie Bergin and Curtis L’Heureux; her special friend, Lenny Fortune; many nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. She was born in Macon, Georgia, daughter of the late Alfred L. and Sarah Stephenson. She grew up in Georgia before moving to Massachusetts. Hazel worked as a home maker with Jewish Family Services for many years, before her retirement. She enjoyed ball room dancing, and travelling. She was a gifted seamstress, who generously gave her time to others. Hazel was loved by everyone who got to know her and was “famous” for always having a bow in her hair. She loved people and spending time with her family, but it was her grandchildren that brought her the greatest joy. Family and friends will gather for calling hours on Saturday, June 3, from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Following the Calling Hours there will be a continued Celebration of her life at a location to be announced. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
