John J. Beando

John J. Beando, 82, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at UMass Hospital in Worcester.  His loving wife, Helen (Hanson) Beando, predeceased him in 2000.   John is survived by his loving family; a son, John J. Beando, Jr. and his wife Karen of Shrewsbury and Yarmouthport, and Patricia Morris and her husband Jack of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Alexandra Beando, Kelsey Beando, Micaela Beando, Danielle Santello, and Jack Morris, Jr.; two great grandchildren, Lena and Harrison.  He also leaves a dear friend and long- time close friend, Barbara Abasciano, with whom he enjoyed many years of companionship.  John was predeceased by his brother, Vincent “James” Beando.  He was born in Worcester, son of the late John and Mary (Ciccarelli) Beando, he attended Worcester Public Schools.  John joined the United States Navy and served proudly during the Korean Conflict, aboard the USS Worcester.   John retired from G.N. Prunier and Sons, after many years of dedicated work as a Mason Tender.  He had previously worked for Granger Corporation and Tonelli Construction.  He was a member of the Laborer’s Union, local 243 and was recognized as being a member for over fifty years.    He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and Saint Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury.  He enjoyed his gardens and was active at the Frohsinn Club and Shrewsbury Senior Center.  John was a proud member of the Shrewsbury Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed football and baseball, and for many years volunteered as a coach for youth leagues.  Much to the chagrin of many of his friends, he was a die-hard Yankee and Giants fan, but they loved him anyway.   Calling Hours for John will be held on Tuesday, May 30, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.   His Funeral will be held on Wednesday May 31, from the funeral home, departing in procession at 9:40 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass at Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Road, (route 9 east), Shrewsbury.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
