Sheila M. (Dowd) Smith, 46, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, in her home, surrounded by her loving family and dearest friends. Sheila is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart , Matthew D. Smith; and their two sons, Daniel T. Smith and Ryan F. Smith, all of Shrewsbury. She is also survived by her mom, Bridget (Cafferty) Dowd of Melrose; a sister, Mary Dowd of Melrose; two brothers, James Dowd of Melrose, and John Dowd of Shirley; many nieces and nephews, including Sinead and Tony Colella of Saugus, who were like siblings to Sheila; and loving family throughout New England and Ireland. Sheila was also pre-deceased by her father Tom Dowd and her brother Thomas. Sheila graduated from Melrose High School and became a Registered Nurse after earning her degree from Labouré College in Boston. She worked for several years in New Jersey and the Boston area before settling down in Shrewsbury with her favorite job, raising her family. She was a member of Trinity Church in Shrewsbury, and volunteered at her children’s schools. She was a fun loving and generous person who so loved spending time with her family and her extended Shrewsbury, Bohler, and Cottage families of friends, whether locally or abroad. Relatives and Friends are invited to gather at Calling Hours on Thursday, May 18, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Road (Route 9 East), Shrewsbury, celebrated by her Pastor and friend, Reverend Dan Collier. (Please proceed directly to the church on Friday morning). Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
