Lorraine Irene (Mandeville) Barnes, 74 of Worcester, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Rose Monahan Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family after a short battle with Stage 4 Ocular Melanoma. Lorraine was born in 1942, the daughter of Mary (Morency) and Lawrence Mandeville. She began her career as a draftsman in the early 1960’s, becoming one of the first women in New England to successfully work her way up to a Mechanical Engineer; earning various awards and accolades throughout her professional life. Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Denise Mandeville of Worcester; her grandchildren Kyle and Cassidy Mahoney both of Worcester; two sisters, Barbara Moore of Lakeville, MA and Shirley Cowden of NV; one brother, Lawrence Mandeville of AZ; a step-daughter, Wenda Barnes of RI; a step-son Scott Duncan of NC; and fifteen nieces and nephews. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Richard I. Barnes; a sister, Judith Cruz; her parents and a step-son Timothy Barnes. Lorraine was an avid golfer and loved to travel with her husband Dick. She had a quick sense of humor and was able to put folks at ease. Lorraine was a generous soul, a true friend and she loved her family, especially her grandchildren, with all her heart. Friends and Relatives are invited to a period of visitation on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA immediately followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
