Benjamin G. O'Meara

September 17, 1971 — April 30, 2017

Benjamin G. O’Meara, 45 of Whitinsville, MA, suddenly passed away on Sunday, April 30th after collapsing from a race in Rhode Island.   Ben was born on September 17, 1971 in Cambridge, MA.  He graduated from St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Class of 1989. Ben later graduated with honors from Providence College in 1993 and he received a Masters of Arts from Emerson College in 1995.  Ben worked for Comcast Spotlight in Business Operations and recently celebrated his 20th anniversary with them.   A New England sports enthusiast, Ben was a 14-year season ticket holder for the Providence College Men’s Friars Hockey team.  A highlight of Ben’s fan life was being at the TD Garden to watch the Friars win their 2015 National Championship.  Ben also enjoyed running.  He completed the 2010 Chicago Marathon and the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon, along with numerous half-marathons and 5Ks, and he was a member of The Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation Falmouth Road Race team. Ben was a longtime member of the November Project Boston and November Project Worcester Tribes.  He enjoyed endless adventures with his wife Jenn, including trips to the 2014 - 2017 IIHF World Junior Hockey tournaments.  Ben was a giving person and at the end of his journey chose to save a life by giving his organs through the New England Organ Bank.  Ben is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jennifer E. (MacCallum) O’Meara; his father, Steven T. O’Meara and his significant other, Leslie Steele of Cumberland, RI; his mother and stepfather, Barbra A. (Masel) and Dr. Patrick Lee of Longmeadow, MA; his brother, Andrew Lee of Worcester, MA; his sister, Megan Lee of Somerville, MA; two stepsisters, Lauren Welshman of Warwick, RI and Danielle Serra and her husband George of Westerly, RI; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wayne and Rita (McGrath)  MacCallum of Grafton; three uncles, David Masel and his wife Elley of Homestay, FL, William O’Meara and his wife Eileen of Bedford, NH and Paul O’Meara and his wife Nan Fellows of Westminster, MA; his aunt, Patricia Curtis and her husband John of Stoneham, ME; his beloved cat, Yoda; many cousins and friends.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Elizabeth Masel and Priscilla and William O’Meara.  All are invited to Ben’s Celebration of Life Service to be held on Sunday, May 21st from 10 am - 1 pm at the Hogan Center on the College of the Holy Cross, 1 College St., Worcester.  Burial was held privately.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Providence College Men's Hockey Team, c/o Providence College Athletics Department, 1 Cunningham Square, Providence, RI 02918.
