Anthony "Tony" Serrato

July 11, 1957 — April 21, 2017

Anthony “Tony” Serrato, 59, of Worcester passed away unexpectedly at home in his sleep, Friday, April 21st 2017. Anthony was born in Worcester, a son of Louis and Marjorie (Schroder) Serrato.  He graduated from Doherty Memorial High School class of 1975 and attended Worcester Industrial Technical Institute. He has lived in Worcester most of his life and for five years on Cape Cod in Falmouth.    While attending High School, Tony worked alongside his father in the family business Serrato Signs.  He later worked alongside his brother Andy to forward the business and help it grow.   In the 1990’s Tony decided to search a different career path doing carpentry and siding work.    He notably refurbished the famous Harmonica Hansel’s hot dog cart and operated it for many years.    Gifted in music, Tony took drum lessons and later taught himself to play, the flute and guitar. As a drummer, he played in many Local bands and could often be seen on stage with his faithful dog and best friend “MAX” lying next to him as he performed.   One of several bands he played in, the “Nebulas” competed in the 1980’s “Battle of the Bands” at Fenway Park and was awarded second place.  He was considered one of the better drummers in the Worcester area and was sought after to perform with other musical groups.   Like his mother, Tony enjoyed reading and writing; he especially enjoyed composing poems, some of which he posted and can be read on his Facebook page “Super Sensitive Soul”.  He also enjoyed, sports especially basketball and competed on various Worcester Parks Teams over the years.    He as well coached and for many years, guided youth at his church; Bethany Christian United Parish and the YMCA church league, earning coach of the year honors twice. Tony is survived by his sister, LuAnn Mattson; his brother, Andrew “Andy” Serrato and his wife Susan; nieces, Alicia and Ashley and nephew Andrew.  Tony also leaves several other nieces and many cousins, extended family members and friends of which you could never hear a bad word about him.
