Richard R. Perron, 80, of Worcester passed away peacefully Friday, April 21st 2017 at home surrounded by the family he cherished. Richard was born in Worcester, son of Roland and Isabelle (Chalifoux) Perron. He graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1956, and joined the U.S. Army, serving his country proudly, during the Korean War. Shortly after his discharge from active duty, Richard met and married Helen A. Marino the “Love of his Life”. The two were married for 57 years. Together they settled in the Massasoit Road section of Worcester to raise their family. Richard was a truck driver for over thirty-one years; 25 of which he worked for Inland Express, and was a proud member of the Teamsters Local 170. After retiring, he accepted a position with Worcester Public Schools at the Durkin Administration Building and was also a school crossing guard at the Blithewood Park intersection, ensuring the safety of children crossing the street. Richard also served as the Election Warden at the Worcester Senior Center for many years. Richard is survived by his wife Helen; his two devoted daughters, Cheryl M. Perron, and Caryn M. Gentile and her husband Vincent Gentile, Jr. whom he considered his son; six grandchildren he cherished, Kristyn Chevalier wife of Christopher, Scott and Sean Smith, Nicholas, Matthew and Vincent M. Gentile; extended family and friends. Richard was a member of St Stephen Church, and was a man of great faith. He was an avid baseball fan who loved the Red Sox. His favorite pastime was playing cribbage with his grandchildren. Richard was a genuine family man who felt that his wife, daughters and grandchildren came first, no matter what. The most important times in his life were those spent with his family. He will be greatly missed. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Tuesday, April 25th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Wednesday, April 26th from the funeral home, with a procession to St Stephen Church, 357 Grafton St. where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial with Military honors will follow in St John Cemetery.
