Ruth E. (Melican) Gentile, 66 of Worcester, passed away in her home on April 17, 2017 with family by her side after a courageous six year battle with multiple myeloma. Ruth leaves her husband, Joseph “Tommy” Gentile of 15 years and her caregiver for the past 6 years. She is survived by her son Michael A. Baer and his wife Mary; two grandchildren, Kevin and Caitlin of Charlton; two step daughters, Dina Mulvey and her husband Thomas and Dawn Gentile of Worcester; a twin brother and sister, Joseph Melican and his wife Eileen of Shrewsbury and Anne Servideo and her husband Joseph of Shrewsbury, many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Ruth was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Ruth E. (Sheanon) Melican. She was a 1968 graduate from Burncoat Senior High School and earned her degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science at Worcester State University. She worked for the City of Worcester as a computer analyst in the Planning Department. Ruth was a former member of the Alumni Advisory Board at Worcester State University and belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was also a member of the Worcester Retirees Association. She enjoyed traveling and taking annual trips to Aruba with her husband. Calling Hours will be on Friday, April 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Funeral Home. Following the Funeral Service, a procession will depart for Saint John’s Cemetery.
