Vito J Savage

May 2, 1924 — April 16, 2017

Vito J. Savage, 92, a decorated World War II, U.S. Navy Veteran passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 16th 2017 with his devoted family gathered at his side.  Vito was born in Worcester, one of four children, of Lithuanian immigrants Frank A Savage, Sr. and Domecella (Lakauskas) Savage.  He grew up in Worcester graduated from Worcester Boys Trade and entered the U.S. Navy during World War II  serving his country proudly aboard the USS Noa and USS Fillmore taking part in over 11 beach invasions.  Upon discharge from active service, Vito accepted a position as a machinist with the Morgan Construction Company where he worked for more than 45 years before retiring.  Vito is survived by his devoted wife of more than 56 years in May, Pauline (Lukas) Savage; his four children, James P. Savage of Londonderry N>H, Stephen Savage and his wife Pamela of Sterling,, Sheryl Klei and her husband Harold of Uxbridge, and Paul J. Savage of Millville; 11 grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews and extended family members.  Three brothers, Joseph Savage, Frank Savage, Jr. and Anthony Savage and a sister, Domicella “Dot” Casper all pre deceased him.   Vito was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4 in Worcester.   He always had a huge smile, outstanding sense of humor , always full of life,  and could light up every room he entered.  Vito made all people around him comfortable in his company.   He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who loved all forms of fishing, fly, bass, ocean, stream and casting.  He loved to hunt, garden and go to the beach.  The New  England sports teams especially the Red Sox, and Patriots were also special interests.   Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Thursday, April 20th 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.   His funeral will be held Friday, April 21st from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Rosary Church, 35 Fales Street where his celebration of life mass will be held at 10:00 am.  Burial in St John Cemetery will follow.  In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box, 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517 or www.woundedwarriorproject.org
