Nancy M. “Lucy” (Covello) Rousseau, 101, a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away on April 14, 2017 in Care One at Millbury Nursing Home. Nancy was born in Acri, Cosenza, Italy and came to America at the age of five. Her parents were Antonio and Angelina (Marchese) Covello. She returned to school, in her 40’s and attended Girl’s Trade to become an Assistant Dietician. She was employed in that field at St. Vincent’s and City Hospitals. She was a former member of “The Sons of Italy”. She was always reading, learning and fulfilled a lifelong dream in her 80’s of learning to play the piano. Everyone loved her cooking, especially her meatballs. She was called “The Mayor” by many at Care One because of her sociability. She was very encouraging and concerned about others’ health, happiness and success and helped family members in many ways. “To Know Her Was to Love Her” for her calmness, sweetness, gentleness and generosity. Her favorite saying was “Be kind to each other”. Her husband of 61 years, John J. Rousseau, died in 1996. She leaves two daughters, Nancy A. Frotten of Worcester and Joan B. Zumpfe and her husband Paul of Dudley; a brother, Henry N. Covello of Brewster. She was affectionally known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren, Barbara O’Connor and her husband Kevin of Dudley, Michelle Kazanovicz and her husband Peter of Francestown, NH, Kristin Zumpfe of Moosup, CT and Christopher Zumpfe of Bridgewater, MA as well as to her nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who called her “Aunt Lucy”. She was predeceased by her three brothers, James, Charles and Albert Covello and her two sisters, Helen Granath and Mary Adams. A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
