Mildred Lim Riley

October 21, 1927 — April 13, 2017

Mildred Lim (Lee) Riley, 89, of Worcester, formerly of Newton, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester.  She was predeceased (1999) by her husband Lewis Riley, after fifty-six beautiful years of marriage.   Mildred is survived by her four married children, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; Alicia Bythewood  (Daniel W. Bythewood, DDS) of Long Island, NY and their children Daniel W Jr.,  Brie Dien, and Christopher Lee Bythewood; Louis J. Riley, Jr., MD, (Shelagh Johnston) of Ithaca, NY and their three children Daphne (Long), Britton, and Meredith Riley, Quion “Q” T. Riley, Sr. (Jo Jo Tam)  of Braintree and son Quion T, Jr; and Lawrence B. Riley, Sr. (Becky) of Worcester and their two children, Briana Lee  (Pascoal) and Lawrence B. Riley, Jr. Her most recent treasures were great-grand children Maya, Aaliyah, Max, and Arya. Lim was born in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late, Sing and Lue (Guilliard) Lee, and survived her twelve siblings and was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.   Mildred and Lewis first set eyes on one another at a U.S.O. dance, and the die was cast. They moved to Boston area where Mildred, while raising her four children, became a Senior Technician and Laboratory administrator in the Neuropsychiatric Research lab at MGH. A career at Roxbury District Court followed, and Lim retired as Assistant Clerk Magistrate.  She continued working well into her seventies, part-time, as a bail bonds person.    A member of Sacred Heart Parish in Newton, Lim was attending Blessed Sacrament Church in Worcester at the time of her death.   Lim was active socially and enjoyed playing Bridge with the Holiday Bridge Group, served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Circle-Lets National Organization for Professional Women, and chapter President for the Boston Chapter of the Jack and Jills of America.    In 1972 she was an Independent candidate for State Representative, representing Ward 14 (Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan).   She was a devotee of fine arts and music, an avid reader, and enthusiastic game player. Her many passions are the foundation of the loving legacy she left behind.   Funeral Services will be held privately.    Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, is assisting her family with arrangements.
