Larry L. “Scooter” Owens, II, 26, of Worcester, had an electric smile, he enjoyed life and loved to be with people. Larry passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at UMass Hospital, surrounded by his family, from injuries as a result of a car accident fourteen days earlier. Larry is survived by his parents, Larry L. Owens, with whom he lived, and Noemi (Diaz) Gonzalez of Worcester; his brother, James A. Owens of Worcester; his paternal grandmother, Leola (Strong) Owens of Cahokia, IL; his maternal grandfather, Jacinto Diaz of Worcester; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Larry was born in Worcester and graduated from Worcester Vocational High School. He was a General Manager for Planet Fitness. He had previously been the head teller at Peoples Untied Bank in Downtown Worcester. Larry enjoyed life and was known to be always smiling, joyful, and outgoing; traits that served him well working at the gym, and when he was at the bank. He loved to participate in sports, he played basketball and football in high school. He enjoyed snowboarding, staying fit, and was a third degree black belt in Karate. Calling Hours for Larry will be held on Thursday, April 13, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Service will be on Friday, April 14, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
