John A. Herring, 69 of Sutton, formerly of Northampton, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 20, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health. John was born on October 1, 1947, a son of the late Chester Harvey Herring, Jr. and Helen Marion (Podlesney) Luce, in Northampton, MA; where he was raised and graduated from High School. After graduation John was selected during the Vietnam draft and proudly served his Nation in the United States Army. Following his return from the Service, John married the love of his life, Joanne C. (Cullen) Herring; together they settled in Northampton and raised their family. John was an avid sports enthusiast, who enjoyed attending games. His greatest passion was coaching his Lassie League Girls’ Softball teams in Northampton, which he enjoyed doing for many years. John also liked traveling with Joanne on the many trips that their daughters sent them on for Christmas. Amongst his many survivors, John leaves behind his beloved wife of over forty-seven years, Joanne C. (Cullen) Herring; his two loving daughters, Stacey A. Herring and her fiancé Todd Bosserman of Huntersville, N.C. and Jennifer L. Giordano and her husband Stephen of Arlington, VA; two brothers, Gerald Herring and Douglas Luce; two sisters, Jean Niquette and MaryEllen Colvin; two grandchildren, Max Giordano and McKenna Bosserman and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents John was predeceased by his brother, Richard Luce. A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm; immediately followed by a Celebration of John’s Life at 1:00 pm at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 PLANTATION ST. Worcester, MA, 01605. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in John’s name to Central MA Hospice, 191 Pakachoag St., Auburn, MA, 01501.
