Worcester - Carl P. Steele, 70, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2017, at home where he was surrounded by family. Carl was a loving father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He continues to live on through his three daughters: Marianne Taylor and her husband Jason, Caitlyn Swope and her husband Timothy, and Elizabeth and her wife Stephanie, as well as his wife, Priscilla Steele, his best friend for over forty years. Carl was also an adoring Grampy to Sullivan Steele Taylor and William Patrick Swope, who were his pride and joy. Carl was a devoted brother to his sisters, Joan Krusas and her husband Robert, and Barbara Cahill and her husband John Michael. He was a caring uncle to Robert Krusas, Kevin Krusas, John Michael Cahill, Jennifer Chew, Brian Cahill, Erin Charpentier and Ryan Cuddy. Carl grew up in Worcester and was a graduate of Worcester Academy in 1964. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he received a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1968 and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He later received an MBA from UMass Amherst and spent his career at Bird Machine in Walpole. In his retirement, he enjoyed working part time at the US Postal Service. Carl was a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers where he served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He was also a member of the Worcester Fraternal Order of Eagles 4311. The memory of Carl's kind and gentle manner and his undying love and devotion to his family will sustain us through the years. Visiting hours will be Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 4-7 p.m. at the Mercadante Funeral Home at 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Saint John's Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604, followed by a Christian Burial at Notre Dame Cemetery. In memory of Carl, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Massachusetts General Hospital's Movement Disorders Unit.
