Norman G Salamy

Norman G. Salamy, 85, of Shrewsbury and Tequesta, Florida passed away peacefully home to eternal rest Thursday, March 9th 2017 with the family he loved gathered by his side. Norman was born in Fall River, one of four children of Richard and Margaret (Salloum) Salamy.  As a young child, Norman moved with his family to Worcester to the Lebanese neighborhood of Grafton Hill.  He graduated from Commerce High School, served for a time in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean conflict before, enrolling and earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business finance from Suffolk University.   Shortly after graduation, Norman accepted a position as a financial advisor and then as a Vice President for Smith Barney - spending almost fifty years in this field until his retirement in 2006. In 1962, Norman married the “Love of his Life” Shirley S. Saidnawey and began a life of love and family for the next 54 years.  He resided primarily in Shrewsbury, spent summers of family and fun on Cape Cod and entertaining friends in Tequesta, Florida during the winters.  Norman is survived by his wife Shirley; his two sons and their families; Robert Salamy, his wife Patricia and their daughter Sara of Wellesley Hills, MA and Andrew Salamy, his wife Patricia and their children, Sydney, Drew and Sienna of East Hampton, NY.   Many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends both here in the area and in Florida. His three sisters, Irene Salloum, Ruth and Florence Salamy all predeceased him.  Norman was an active and involved member of St George Orthodox Cathedral.  A member and past president of its Board of Directors, member and past president of its Men’s Club, founding member and trustee of the St George Cathedral Endowment Fund and member of the building finance committee that constructed the Cathedral .   Norman was also very active and first State Director of the ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Chapter in Massachusetts, when Danny Thomas founded the hospital.  He was a member of the Shrewsbury Kiwanis Club and Worcester Bohemians.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 am in St George orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street Worcester. The Reverend Milad Selim, Dean of the Cathedral,  will officiate.  Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.    A period of calling hours will be held Saturday, from 9:00am to 10:45am at the Cathedral prior to the service.   Memorial remembrances in Norman’s name can be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 30 Anna St. Worcester, the VNA Care Hospice of Central MA, 120 Thomas St. Worcester or St. Jude Children’s Research h Hospital, Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, Tenn.    The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist then family with arrangements.   “May his Memorial Be Eternal.”
