Joseph A Sacco

Joseph A. Sacco, 61, of Worcester, passed away with family gather by his side, Tuesday March 7, 2017.  Joseph was born in Worcester, May 28, 1955, one of three sons of Mary “Pat” (Nugent) Sacco and the late Alfred J. Sacco.  He graduated from North High School class of 1973, worked all his life as a construction Worker, most notably for Mabey Bridge and Shore Company before retiring. He has lived here all his life.  Joseph is survived by a son, Tony Sacco of Shrewsbury; his mother, Mary “Pat” (Nugent) Sacco of Worcester; his two brothers, Michael H. Sacco and his wife Robin of West Boylston, Robert P. Sacco and his wife Susan of Wareham; two nephews, Michael Sacco, Domenic Sacco and his wife Taylor and a niece Nicolette Sacco-Starr and her husband William; a great niece Vivianna Sacco; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many friends.   Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church.   A Racing Pigeon enthusiast since childhood,  Joe was a renowned member of the Rhode Island Racing Pigeon Association where he won many awards with his champion birds namely “Big Al”.  He was also a motivational speaker who spoke to and sponsored people that needed help and guidance.   He also enjoyed the outdoors and sports especially tennis.   A family man dedicated to those he loved, Joe found his greatest moments with his family.  The holidays, family gatherings and special occasions are those times that made him happiest. Joe’s funeral will be held Friday, March 10th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.  with a procession at 11:15 to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Rd where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am.  Burial with his father will follow in St John Cemetery.   A period of calling hours will be held in the funeral home from 9:00 am to 11:00 am prior to departing for church.   In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the VNA Nurse Association, 128 Thomas Street 01608 or the Central Mass Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove St Worcester, 01608. The Sacco family would like to thank the Umass Memorial Oncology Department namely Dr. Mohammed Salhab and Christina Fitch and staff for the care, comfort and compassion they gave to Joe during a difficult time.
