Sophie (Geotis) Christo, 91 formerly of 11 Fairlawn Drive, Worcester MA died peacefully on Wednesday March 1st surrounded by her loving family. Her husband of 66 years Peter J. Christo died in 2013. Sophie was born on March 16, 1925 in Fabyan, Ct. The youngest child of Theodore and Mary (Christo) Geotis. She was raised in Webster, MA, and graduated from Bartlet High School, class of 1943. Sophie leaves her two loving and devoted daughters, Barbara Pero and her husband Louis of Auburn, MA and Roberta Alera and her husband Keith of Shrewsbury, MA. She was proud of her 5 grandchildren, Michelle Vasil and her husband Paul of Boston, MA, Dr. Stephanie Pero Fournier and her husband John of Colchester VT, Steven Pero of Holden, MA, Kristin Bell and her husband Michael of Charlestown, MA and Jason Alera of Shrewsbury, MA. She also leaves her 4 precious great grandchildren; David and Mathew Fournier and Charles and Sophia Vasil. She leaves her brother-in-law William J. Christo of Henderson, NV and his wife Loula, her sister-in-law Mary Stevens of West Boylston, MA, her godson Theodore Geotis of Webster, MA and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers Joseph and James Geotis of Webster, MA sisters Fotina Apostal of Dudley MA, Celia George of East Douglas, MA and Yvonne Kostandin of Wallingford, CT. Sophie was a sales associate for many years at Denholm’s & McKay, Marcus and Eddy’s of Park Avenue until they closed. Sophie and Peter loved to travel going, to Hawaii, France, Albania and 20 years of vacations in Naples, FL. During the summer months they could be found on the beaches of New Hampshire and Maine. Sophie had many hobbies, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cake decorating and was a fabulous pastry chef. She was a member of St. Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church and the Women’s Guild. She loved baking and volunteering at the Albanian Festivals with her husband and family. Her family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Dennis Dimitri and staff, Shrewsbury Crossing and especially the first floor staff of the Beaumont Plantation St. Campus and Salmon Hospice. Calling hours will be held Sunday March 5th from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at Mercadante Funeral Home and Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA. On Monday March 6th at 11:00AM the funeral will be held at the Assumption of St. Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Assumption of St. Mary’s Endowment Fund.
