Edward R. “Ed” Lamusta, 78, of Whitinsville formerly of Worcester, passed away Saturday February 25th 2017 with family gathered at his side, in the care of the Beaumont of Northbridge after a long fought battle with dementia. Ed was born in 1938, one of four children of Italian immigrants Michael and Jenny (Graziano) Lamusta. He was educated in the Worcester School system, served for a time in the Massachusetts Army National guard during the latter half of the Korean War. Starting in 1962, as a master mechanic in auto repair Edward established a large and successful towing company as well as owning and operating numerous Auto repair shops in the City of Worcester before settling in the Rice Square section of Grafton Hill; known as Lamusta Auto Service; a notable gathering spot for friends and customers to this day. Edward served as its President for over 50 years until retiring in 2003 and turning the company over to his son Michael. Edward is survived by his three children, Sharon DiVitto and her husband Michael of Whitinsville, Michael Lamusta and his fiancée Mary Ryan of Worcester and Jenny Howard of Shrewsbury; a brother, Richard Lamusta and his wife Carol of Lynnfield and sister, Janice Santora and her husband Richard of Shrewsbury; his former wife and good friend Elizabeth (Carey) Lamusta; five grandchildren he found great joy with, Dante, Olivia, Bianca, Harrison and Juliet; two great grandchildren, Aaron and Abigail; Nieces, nephews and extended family members. Edward’s brother, Michael Lamusta, Jr and daughter in law Lorna Lamusta pre deceased him. Edward was a member of St Stephen’s church and St Patrick’s church in Whitinsville. An avid and accomplished skier; Edward was a member of the PSIA, Professional Ski Instructors of America and taught skiing for Mt Sunapee in NH and Wachusett Mountain in Princeton. When not teaching Edward could be found on many of the Ski areas in New England and beyond. He also found enjoyment in biking, motorcycles and bowling where he was a member of numerous bowling leagues in the area. Family and friends were very important in Edward’s life; seeing his children and grandchildren regularly as well as his friends at the station who would just drop by and hangout are what made Ed smile. Ed loved everyone he met in his path in life and will live in the hearts of many forever. He was also an avid Red Sox Fan. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3rd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND Chapel, 370 Plantation St departing in procession at 9:40 am to St Stephen Church, 357 Grafton St where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Thursday, March 2nd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
