John Joseph McCormick, 74, of Worcester, formerly of Cambridge, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Cambridge on August 13, 1942, a son of John C. & Hazel (Young) McCormick. John was raised in Cambridge and was an alumnus of Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School. After his graduation John enlisted and honorably served his Nation in the United States Marine Corp. Shortly after his separation from the Marines John married the love of his life Mary Margaret (Toland) McCormick and together they lovingly shared the next 53 years of their lives. John worked as a letter carrier for the United States Post office for over 30 years before he retired in 2004; after his retirement John enjoyed working part time at Tri State Truck Center in Shrewsbury . John was an avid New England Sports fan and he especially enjoyed following the Red Sox and Patriots. He was also a longtime member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. John’s true passion in life was his classic cars which he enjoyed collecting and tinkering with. John will most be remember by his loved ones as a true family man who was a great husband, father, and grandfather. Amongst his many survivors, John leaves behind his beloved wife Mary M. (Toland) McCormick; three sons, John J. McCormick of Worcester, Robert J. McCormick and his spouse Tracey of Sturbridge, Neil C. McCormick and his spouse Susan of Paxton; his daughter Shannon Doherty and her spouse Darren of Rutland; two sisters, Philys Zeh and Janice Torkildsen; eleven grandchildren, Breanna, John, Marissa, Matthew, Reilly, Devon, Timothy, Cameron, Ailish, Tyler, and Ryann; and three great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his parents, John C. & Hazel (Young) McCormick and his brother, James McCormick. John’s funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605.
