Julia M. (Melanson) Chestna, 84 of Worcester, died peacefully at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester on January 27, 2017. Her husband of 38 years, Albin Chestna died June 9, 1996. Julia was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Mark and Arsene (Geddry) Melanson. Julia worked for ten years for David Clark Company and then spent over 34 years working for Sprague Electric (now Allegro MicroSystems). Julia was a devoted Catholic and long-time member of Our Lady of Providence at St. Bernard Church, where she volunteered as a bingo worker. Julia enjoyed watching the Red Sox, going to the beach and was an avid walker. Julia is survived by her two children, Mark Chestna and his wife Michelle of West Boylston and Debra (Chestna) Gamache and her husband Daniel of Holden; a sister, Ann Marie Comeau of Nova Scotia; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is predeceased by two brothers, Leo and Edward Melanson and a sister, Priscilla Belleveau. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 31st, departing the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. in procession to a 10:30 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Providence at St. Bernard Church, 228 Lincoln Street, Worcester. Julia will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband at Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
