Louise "Helen" (Lapan) Lucia

Louise "Helen" (Lapan) Lucia, 87 of Boylston passed away peacefully in her home on January 24th, 2017 with loved ones by her side.   Helen was born on November 23, 1929 in Berlin, MA, one of eleven children of Jacob and Hazel (Goslett) Lapan. She grew up in Worcester and graduated from Worcester Girls Trade School. Her husband of 55 years, Harlow I. Lucia, Jr. predeceased her in January of 2004.  She is survived by her four children, Sharon DiCentes and her husband James of Leicester, Alan Lucia and his wife Leslie of Boylston, Donna Racine and her husband Michael of Worcester, and Steven Lucia of Boylston.  She also leaves her longtime companion Wilfred Beauregard of Berlin, nine grandchildren Michelle, Laura, Jaime, Alan Jr., Jason, Nicholas, Christopher, Cheryl, and Brandy, 16 great grandchildren, three sisters, Margaret Lucci of Worcester, Evelyn Mullane of Hudson, and Carlene Gannon of Worcester, many nieces and nephews and extended family members.  She was predeceased by five brothers, Richard, Shepley, Raymond, Frank, and Louis Lapan, and by two sisters Fannie Lemay and Jacqueline Pasquale.   Helen worked for many years at Digital Equipment Corporation before retiring.  She was devoted to her family and enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, trips to Foxwoods and bowling.  Helen was blessed with devoted children, grandchildren, extended family the Beauregards, who all cared for her in the last months of her life.  Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Friday, January 27th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME and CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street.  Her funeral will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, January 28th in the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Boylston.  In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name may be made to either the Boylston or Berlin Town Volunteer Rescue Services, 599 Main Street, Boylston, MA 01505
