Corrado “Nino” Sasso, 85, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017, with loving family at his bedside at Christopher House of Worcester. Nino is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Vittoria (Salerno) Sasso; a daughter, Laura Medeiros and her husband David of Northbridge; three sons, Vincenzo Sasso, Giovanni “John” Sasso and his wife Julie, and Benny Sasso and his wife Karen, all of Worcester; three brothers, Benny Sasso and his wife Maria, Carlo Sasso and his wife Lucrezia, all of Worcester, and Thomas Sasso and his wife Debbie of Grafton; three sisters, Laura Lagroia wife of the late Mauro of Bisceglie, Margherita Ambrosino wife of the late Genaro of Worcester, and Nicoletta Sasso of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Briana, Gianna, Nicholas, Vincent, Gabriella, Madison, Anthony, and Natalia; many nieces and nephews. Nino was born in Bisceglie, Bari, Italy, son of the late, Vincenzo and Laura (Simone) Sasso. Having lived in Italy for many years, Nino and Vittoria moved to the United States in 1968, settling in the Shrewsbury Street Neighborhood of Worcester. Nino found work at the newly established UMass Medical School and Hospital, and worked in the House Keeping Department for many years, before retiring in 1989. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Parish, The Men’s Biscegliese Society, and the Eastside Improvement Club. He was a devout Catholic, attending church regularly and enjoyed playing Bocce in the Sons of Italy League at the church. He was happiest when surrounded by friend and family. Nino was a kind and gentle man, who was often seen walking Shrewsbury Street, visiting with those he knew, and a sharing a friendly wave and a smile with passersby.Nino's family would like to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to all of the wonderful staff at Christopher House; the care that Nino received was appreciated. It was evident that everyone at the facility cared and made him and his family feel comfortable and at home. Calling Hours for Nino will be held on Tuesday, January 24, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 25, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Road, Worcester. Entombment will follow at Notre Dame Mausoleum.
