Philip E. “Phil’ Gigliotti, 88, of Worcester passed away Sunday, January 14th after a brief illness. Phil for most of life was the well-known owner and operator selling ice cream and snacks from his ice cream truck and snackmobile known both as “Phil’s Snackmobile” and Soft Serve “Tasti Treats”. Phil’s trucks and Philip himself could be seen at most parades, baseball games, neighborhoods and venues where celebrations in Worcester and the surrounding towns were held. His iconic trucks were a fixture in the Worcester area. Phil also owned and operated Jim’s Inspection Station on Millbury St., retiring and turning his businesses over to his nephew James Gigliotti and his wife Ann Marie who proudly run them today. After retirement Phil continued to be a fixture with Jim both in the truck and at the station. He loved what he did. Phil was born in Worcester, one of nine children of Philip E. and Elizabeth (Cosentino) Gigliotti. He attended Worcester Public Schools; worked for a time for the former Whittall Carpet Company before going into business on his own. He has lived here all his life. Phil is survived by many nieces and nephews, including James Gigliotti and his wife Ann Marie whom he considered a son and whom cared for him all these years; their children, James Gigliotti, Jr, Michael and Kristin, and grandchildren, Morgan and Lola; a sister; other extended family members and friends. Seven siblings, including Vito and Ralph Gigliotti and Mary Bianculli pre deceased him. Philip when not working found enjoyment with a good day at the casino, watching his favorite sports teams; The New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox or just spending time with Jim, Ann Marie and their family. He loved being around people, which is why he enjoyed his business so much. The smile he could put on a face when he handed them their treat was priceless. He also through the years had several special spots for his trucks and would get there extremely early to ensure he snagged that spot. He will be greatly missed. At his request funeral services and burial will be private. Remembrances in his name can be made to “Why Me” 1152 Pleasant St, Worcester, MA 01602. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
