Jessie A. (Waire) Johnson, 93 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Worcester Health Center. Jessie was born in Aliceville, Alabama, a daughter of the late John and Rosie (Bell) Waire. She grew up in Alabama until moving to Worcester in 1965. Jessie worked for Dr. Rubin and other doctors as a domestic worker. Jessie was also employed by Brown Shoe Company and Talbots Clothing. Jessie and her late sister Fannie were part of the founding members of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She did God’s work by serving as an usher, a deaconess and an organizer of fundraisers to help raise money to finance the church. She will always be remembered for the delicious meals that she and her sister prepared for the church. In addition to her dedication to the church and her family, Jessie enjoyed cooking, fishing and "her westerns and her stories". Jessie is survived by her son, Brycle Waire and his wife Dorothy; a daughter-in-law, Veronica Waire, four grandchildren, Kimberly Germaine, Nathaniel Waire, Aundre Waire of Worcester and Levorn Waire ,Jr of Connecticut; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Levorn Waire; four brothers, Henry, Mobile, Irving and Hilton; three sisters, Fannie Mae, Ophelia and Betty Jean. A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. followed by her service at 11:00 a.m. in Emmanuel Baptist Church, 717 Main St, Worcester.
