George Monfreda, 81, of Worcester, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at UMass Hospital in Worcester. George is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Judith A. (Bruso) Monfreda; their son, George J. Monfreda and his wife Susan M. Monfreda of Jefferson; his best friend and grandson, James A. Monfreda of Jefferson; his brothers and sisters in law, with whom he was exceptionally close; many nieces and nephews. George was pre-deceased by his beloved granddaughter, Jordan Elizabeth Monfreda and by five brothers, Joseph, Louis, Frank, Al, and Peter Monfreda. He was born in Worcester, son of the late, Peter and Concetta (Arcieri) Monfreda and has lived here all his life. He served his nation proudly in the United States Army. George worked for many years as an upholsterer, restoring beauty to fine furniture and the homes in which they were placed. He worked for many years at the former Mechanics Upholstering on Shrewsbury, before going to share his trade with people in Fitchburg, as he worked for The Fabric Place. He and his wife were long time members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann, before moving and currently attending Immaculate Conception Parish in Worcester. He enjoyed computers and computer games, music and playing guitar. He and Judy also enjoyed day trips to enjoy “The Wonder of It All”. Calling Hours for George will be held on Saturday Morning, December 31, from 10 a.m. until his Funeral Service begins at 12 Noon in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
