Alice C. (Andrews) Henry, 89 of Millbury, formerly a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Saturday, December 17, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Alice, more commonly known as Nana, was born July 26, 1927 in Worcester Ma. She was the only child of the late Roland and Mildred (Martin) Andrews. She was raised in Shrewsbury on her beloved Lake Quinsigamond until she moved to Worcester as a young adult. In Worcester she worked at the Lowes Theater where she met the love of her life, Edward Henry. They were married for 53 years. They gave birth to her pride and joy Karen C. (Henry) Etre and moved with her family back to Shrewsbury. Alice took work at the Lawrence Candle Factory for several years, the Worcester Envelope Co for 13 years before taking the position as the Head House Keeper at the opening of U-Mass Hospital on Lake Ave. She eventually retired from the hospital at the age of 63. Moving to Millbury in 1993, she resided there for the past 23 years. She lost her love, Eddie after 53 years of marriage and spent the rest of her life living with her daughter and grandson. Alice enjoyed a life time of memories with her dearest friends playing cards on Wednesdays, shopping on Saturdays, going to visit the Rhode Island beaches with her family, and of course having dessert! Some of her favorite memories are those spent with her daughter Karen and fiancé Richard Walsh, her grandson Christopher L. Etre, his wife Crystal, and their three children, Branden, Kirsten, and Brad, as well her granddaughter Victoria Lenihan. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she cherished any time she could spend or talk with them. She loved the company of all “her” dogs, Roger, Diablo, Jambi, Dante and Lulu. Alice had an amazing ability to befriend all that she met. Her smile, perspective and gracious offering of food made her many of friends! She loved having genuine conversations and watching children play. She was known as “Nana” to the many children and adults she spent time with. She will be truly missed by all that have had the chance to meet her. The family would like to thank the hospital staff at St. Vincent Hospital, Dr. Richard Wholey, Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, Bayada Health Care and VNA Hospice Care Unit. Services for Nana will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial next to her husband will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 21st from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to departure for her funeral Mass.
